One major challenge Kisoboka faced in transforming the community of Bakka was poor health conditions, often treated improperly with local herbs and spiritual practices. Children were dying of treatable diseases and missing school due to illnesses like malaria, epilepsy, and worms. HIV, TB and other diseases were going undiagnosed. HIV us still the number one cause of death in Bakka.

In 2021, Kisoboka opened a 24/7 Medical Center in Bakka, staffed by clinicians, nurses, midwives, a physiotherapist, and a crisis counselor. Sponsored students and their parents receive free healthcare, while the community pays only a small markup on medications.

We are the only facility in Wakiso providing free physiotherapy for disabled children. Kisoboka focuses on helping each child achieve daily living activities, regardless of school attendance. Our staff motto: Loving a Village One Person at a Time!

Challenge

We aim to expand our services by acquiring a dental chair, an x-ray room with equipment, and a surgical theater. No local dentists are available in Bakka or nearby villages. For c-sections, we must transfer mothers to distant hospitals, sometimes resulting in the baby’s death. The community trusts Kisoboka and prefers our services, but referrals to other facilities often meet resistance, causing unnecessary suffering and
visits to local witch doctors and sometimes death.

How You Can Help...

Dental Equipment
There is no dentist in Bakka village or the surrounding district. Students and community members only see a dentist when the pain is severe enough to seek extractions at a center a long distance away or go to the local witch doctor for a remedy. A dental chair is urgently needed.

We did an evaluation of 329 students, only 5% did not have urgent dental need.

Amount Needed:  $15,000
